The Bloggers

We’d like to introduce you to our fantastic team of bloggers:

Kathy Harp is a French teacher by profession, beach girl by birth, and “pioneer wife” by marriage.  She lives with her husband John in a log home in the “Hereford Zone” of Baltimore County, Maryland.  Hereford Zone residents since 1993, they live on property bought by John’s grandparents in 1940, a property that is currently home to four generations of family. When not zipping along the highways and byways to work, they tend bees, harvest herbs, mill lumber, and (usually) enjoy country living.  Her full blog can be found at http://maywoodliving.wordpress.com/.

Carri Nelsen is the Group Fitness Manager at Gold’s Gym in Shrewsbury.  There, she trains with a certified personal trainer, teaches group fitness classes and orchestrates the group fitness aspect of the gym.  In addition, Carri assists with fitness related activities in the community.  As a former educator and school principal, Carri has an investment in helping other people grow, as individuals.  After being recruited to teach group exercise classes, she found a new passion.  Upon the arrival of her daughter, Carri decided to leave the Field of Education and become a stay at home mom.  It was at this time that she also delved deeper into her new passion, exercise.  Carri is constantly looking for new ways to improve her own personal wellness and is eager to share some of the insights she has gained with readers of The Zone Magazine each week in our Wellness Wednesday series.

Diane Meola, a certified personal trainer and CrossFit Level 1 Instructor, is devoted to fitness and exercise. Growing up, she played soccer, basketball, softball and track.  She joined my first gym in 1995 and has worked out with free weights and in various exercise classes ever since.  Her current favorites are spin and treading classes. She believes a sense of adventure is an important part of an active lifestyle and tries to practice what she preaches.  She’s biked down a volcano in Hawaii, raced down a zip-cord in Costa Rica, kayaked in the Wailua Rivers, and went off road ATV riding through the jungle and mountains of Guanacaste.

Her mission is to encourage a healthy lifestyle and self-acceptance. Nutrition plays an important role in this type of lifestyle.  Her friends will tell you that she has a passion for food.  She enjoys cooking and eating all different types of cuisines.  The key is preparing meals in a healthy fashion and knowing what you’re putting in your body.  Think of your body as a machine and you want to give it the best fuel for high performance.  She is here to help you build upon your strengths and believes that responsible fitness training requires constant supervision and adjustments: there is no One-Size-Fits-All program!
